Park Life in edibles

Mile End Park: I became a tad obsessed with foraging after reading “Sapiens: A brief history of mankind” (if you haven’t read it, do!). So, I booked myself on to a foraging course run by Hackney Arts and led by professional forager James Wood (from totallywild UK). It was really fantastic!

What surprised me the most was how much wild food is growing all around us without us realising! Shown in the pic below, we ate a wild salad with noodles coated in a delicious sauce made from dandelion Jam and soy sauce. The salad included:

  • Cat’s Ears (like dandelion but leaves are less bitter)
  • Common Mallow flower (roots are used to make marsh mallow )
  • Vetch
  • Wild rocket (yes it tastes just like rocket…)
